Actually it’s more like one old computer tucked in between a row of weaving chairs. But at least it works!

Yesterday’s drive from Chitkul here to Kalpa was a truly hair-raising one. The road was sometimes carved out of the mountain wall with some 200 meters of near vertical cliff both below and above. At one point something absurd happened. Just as we came around a corner, a deer suddenly came free falling from above and crashed to its death just 30-40 meters ahead of us on the road. It had somehow lost its grip on the vertical cliff above and came tumbling down with a huge impact. Along with it came some boulders and we had to take cover under an over-hanging rock. As we passed the deer it’s huge empty eyes gave us a chilling stare. It seemed like a very bad omen to say the least and we were glad to reach Kalpa safely.

The roads and the landscapes up here are amazing. So are the Kinnauri people who keep giving us apples and garlands made of nuts wherever we turn up. Here are some pictures from the past days.

I will probably add some fancy narration and upload a different version once I am back with my biggie computer in Delhi in a couple of weeks. Sorry for the shaky picture but the camera used is primarily meant for still photography and has no in-built stabilizer of any kind.

One often sees “scientists” doing this with the most absurd results. Some time back I read an article about a group of scientists who had found a correlation between regular tooth brushing and a lower rate of heart attacks. Their conclusion was that if you brush your teeth at least twice a day you will get a healthier heart! Although, of course, we may not be able to rule that out completely, isn’t a more likely reason for the correlation that people who brush their teeth regularly tend to live healthier lives in general? People who brush their teeth at least twice a day might tend to also eat healthier food and exercise more often compared to people who don’t brush their teeth regularly, and therefore also have a lower rate of heart-related problems.

A transparent tape now covers the hole and might prevent them from coming inside again.

Update: Don’t worry. They have already found another way out. But at least they should know by now that they’re not welcomed.
